Position: City of Irvine Librarian

A nationally recognized City, Irvine has a population of nearly 320,000. The 13th largest California city by population, Irvine is in the process of withdrawing from the County library system and developing a locally operated and world-class municipal library system.
 
The City Librarian will work closely with the City Manager and Director of Community Services to lead the transition planning and implementation process and oversee the libraries when opened as city-run facilities. To meet the standards of this high-performing organization, the ideal candidate must have superior technical skills and knowledge coupled with being a problem solver with the ability to pivot while maintaining forward momentum. The successful candidate will build upon the strong community support that currently exists and bring a track record of providing organizational leadership in well-managed library systems.
 
Competitive candidates will offer at least eight (8) years of highly responsible experience managing public library service programs, including employee supervision, budgeting, and community relations, and a Bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree in Library Science is highly desirable.
 
The salary range for this position is $138,070 – $215,134 DOQE and is supplemented with competitive benefits. Recruitment closes Sunday, September 15, 2024.
