From an EveryLibrary email:

We need your help to Restore $3.2 million to the California State Library’s FY2024-25 budget for online tutoring services through public libraries.

It’s an incredibly impactful program that the California State Assembly needs to continue.

Join the California Library Association and EveryLibrary in calling on the State Assembly to restore vital state library funding for HelpNow Tutoring Services. Online tutoring has been an invaluable resource through public libraries for over 1.7 million California students in the past year alone, but it’s now at risk of being dismantled due to proposed budget cuts.

HelpNow Online Tutoring provides 24/7 live homework assistance across all core subjects, offers bilingual support, and bridges the educational gaps in all communities, especially rural and underprivileged. By cutting the funding for online tutoring, we risk widening the educational divide and dimming the prospects of our most vulnerable populations.

Consider these compelling statistics:

  • In 2023, online tutoring had 1,772,518 total uses across California.
  • Students engaged with over 1.4 million practice tests, lessons, videos, flashcards, and other learning tools.
  • The current school year has seen over 240,000 tutoring sessions, reflecting the program’s growing demand and effectiveness.
  • An overwhelming 93% of students report a boost in confidence tackling homework after an online tutoring session.
  • We cannot afford to backtrack on our commitment to education. The cost is minimal, but the impact is profound. Join us in urging state legislators to restore the $3.2 million funding to the State Library budget for online tutoring. Together, we can ensure that this vital program continues to lift California students toward academic success and greater self-assurance.

Send an email to support California students!

Act now, reach out to your state representatives, help spread the word, and demand that we uphold the commitment to education for all Californians. Let’s work together to safeguard Online Tutoring Services through all California Public Libraries.
