“Every month, a man with a book enchants dozens of kids at the library in Marina”

The Marina branch of Monterey County Free Libraries offers a once a month reading time, called “Dads Read!,” where a variety of adult men read stories to children in the library.

Why dads? As they were considering projects, they realized that many children are read to woman, but the number with dads reading was very much smaller. It has now become a community event with children wearing costumes, with games being played, and, yes, with read-alouds by men. Parents can pick up groceries from Food Bank for Monterey County. They can also purchase used books or exchange clothing from Buy Nothing Marina.

Dads Read! usually happens on the second Saturday of the month. If you need additional information, you can reach out to FriendsOfTheMarinaLibrary@gmail.com.
