The Position:
The College seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in the Library. The ideal candidate will share the College’s commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide focused support for the delivery of library instruction, services, and resources to diverse populations and Learning Communities at Skyline College. The Librarian also participates in other essential work areas including reference, information literacy instruction, and collection development. This position requires self-direction, flexibility, the ability to work well with others as part of a team, and the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. This assignment may include evening and weekend hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. - Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff involved with Learning Communities and other campus organizations such as Puente, UMOJA, CIPHER, student clubs, Middle College and Dual Enrollment Programs, International Students Program, Support Services, and Counseling to provide comprehensive library and information literacy support
- Design and facilitate unique library experiences for students that are embedded into Learning Community courses that support academic and career goals and connect with the social events offered by the Learning Communities
- Expand Library collection development of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIAA) materials and resources in collaboration with Learning Communities
- Provide personalized research instruction and reference that focuses on critical thinking
- Collaborate with the campus community to promote culturally responsive and antiracist pedagogies, incorporate critical information literacy, and expand outreach and community-building events
- Participate in curriculum development, learning outcomes development and assessments, grants relevant to programs, serve on college committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional programs and participate in appropriate professional development activities
- Develop, revise, teach, and assess information literacy in a variety of formats and modalities (e.g., credit-bearing courses, one-time information literacy instruction sessions, and workshops)
- Provide library instruction and reference services in-person and remotely using various communication tools
- Identify and implement new methods to improve textbook affordability at Skyline College such as open educational resources (OER) and zero textbook costs (ZTC) awareness, adoption, use, and assessment
- Identify and implement new methods, including emerging technologies, for increasing student, faculty, and staff awareness of library services and collections
- Maintain scheduled office and campus hours and participate in department/division meetings, college committees, and regional committees as appropriate
- Perform other duties as assigned and as required by contract and institutional needs
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree or above in library science, library and information science, OR the equivalent (see below)
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded-practice both within and outside of the classroom

Degree Equivalence
The applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different.
Academic Background Equivalence
Related to disciplines in which a Masters Degree is not generally expected or available. The applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units of coursework in the academic field and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:
i) a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelors or Associates Degree, and
ii) a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by course work required for the degree major.
Professional Achievement Equivalence
The applicant must have completed the General Education requirements for that degree and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that his/her preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The screening committee will select for interview candidates from among those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, give evidence of any or all of the following:
- Passion and enthusiasm for the role of libraries in the community college
- Ability to self-motivate, prioritize, and effectively multi-task in a dynamic and flexible environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including engaging presentation skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience developing, teaching, and assessing information literacy instruction and other library instruction for face-to-face or online courses
- Experience delivering reference and other instructional services in synchronous and asynchronous modalities
- Demonstrated experience in implementation and technical support of library electronic resources such as databases, integrated library systems, discovery layers, etc.
- Knowledge of open educational resources (OER) and other textbook affordability strategies and initiatives
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating library events and programs
- Experience supervising or coordinating the work of Classified Professionals or student employees
- Demonstrated ability to write grants, manage projects, and/or coordinate events
- Demonstrated ability to assume leadership roles, develop programs, and/or engage in participatory governance
Preferred Qualifications:
- American Library Association (ALA) accredited Masters degree in Library Science or Library Information Science
- Experience with reference, instruction, and collection development for Baccalaureate (BA) degree programs
- Recent experience working with racially and other diverse students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and particular fields shape patterns of participation and outcomes
- Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially and other diverse student groups
- Experience and skill with addressing inequity in the classroom and on campus
- Experience and expertise in culturally-responsive teaching
- Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within courses and classrooms
- Demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving Institution designation for institutional, departmental and instructional practices
